User-initiated requests

SHAREit supports SIP2 and NCIP to enable remote user authentication to a local LMS user file. Using CILL, patrons may initiate resource sharing requests from any LMS system.

Flexible request handling for items held in home library

Staff can block requests for locally-held titles, redirect to the local catalogue to place a hold, and place a hold directly in the local catalogue (NCIP.)

Flexibility in lender lists & load balancing

Multiple levels of lender lists can be used to direct requests to preferred and network lenders, with eight load-leveling options for distributing requests.

Multi-copy requests

Staff can initiate multiple numbers of request for the same title through one simple step, which allows libraries to support services such as book clubs and study groups with minimal staff involvement.

Circulation – Interlibrary Loan Link (CILL)

Libraries can pair Auto-Graphics products together to simplify workflows. For example, SHAREit ILL can be embedded into VERSO LMS in a relationship called Circulation-Interlibrary Loan Link (CILL). Thus, staff and users can search, place and process requests all in a single interface.

Clean, intuitive discovery interface

Unique clustered display groups multiple formats under appealing jacket art, making it easy for the user to find and request the title and format they want. In addition, customisable interfaces make it easy to design home pages, forms and more specific to your library’s brand.

MARCit simplified cataloguing workflows

MARCit is a source of high-quality MARC records updated weekly with new records from the Library of Congress and other verified sources. Libraries can search, download and import high-quality MARC records – individually or batched – into their library catalogues.

MARCit’s flexible search interface allows the cataloguer to search an unlimited number of databases on the search screen simultaneously and select a record from any of the result sets returned. A brief citation display for each result set assists in the choice of record.

When viewing a MARC record, Online Interactive Authority Control is available to validate all headings in the bibliographic record against national agency authority records. Copies of the related authority records are available for download if desired. Modifications can then be performed to the record according to the library’s local policies. The bibliographic record is then added to the download list.

MARCit can be purchased alone or bundled with Auto-Graphics' SHAREit.

All you need for ILL resource sharing

SHAREit: A True Resource Sharing Market Leader

We are the largest provider of state wide resources, the SHAREit system utilised by 16 U.S. States and the Canadian province of British Columbia. SHAREit has led the industry in online-based resource sharing since 1984.

What is NCIP

NCIP (NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol) is a technical standard that enables a library’s circulation system to interact with one or more other circulation, resource-sharing or self-service systems.

A typical, and manual, borrowing workflow may include 22 or more steps. With NCIP, the number of borrowing steps is reduced by 50 percent to just 11 steps. On the lending side, the traditional manual workflow of 14 steps is reduced to 8 steps when using NCIP, or 42% fewer steps. The detailed workflow comparison with and without NCIP is available on the NISO ISQ website.

The specific steps each ILL staff member performs may vary depending on local policies and workflow. However, this workflow reflects a typical borrowing and lending transaction.

Staff Cost Savings

Implementing NCIP saves significant staff time both for the individual local library and aggregated at the state wide or consortia level. The saved staff time can be directly translated into cost-savings for staff who would be freed to perform other library tasks. User satisfaction is increased because libraries are obtaining needed items more quickly as a result of more efficient and less labour-intensive workflow.

The quantified aggregated savings can be used to validate a substantial return on investment from the purchase and implementation of the NCIP-compliant resource sharing system.

Here is a more detailed review of staff cost savings.

NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol

NCIP Savings Calculator

Developed by Auto-Graphics, the NCIP Savings Calculator permits librarians at the state or local level to estimate the number of staff hours and thus staff costs, one or more libraries can save when implementing the NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol (NCIP) between the resource sharing system and one or more local circulation systems.

It facilitates seamless collaboration among libraries by enabling them to share resources efficiently, regardless of their individual Integrated Library Systems (ILS). SHAREit supports both virtual and hybrid union catalogues, allowing for dynamic Z39.50 searches or aggregated bibliographic records, respectively.

How does SHAREit enhance resource sharing among libraries?

SHAREit offers a unified search interface that retrieves results from hundreds of libraries simultaneously. It allows for unlimited lenders per request, increasing the likelihood of fulfilling user requests. Features like automatic request deflection, smart lender list building and NCIP ILS integration streamline the requesting process and save staff time.

Can users initiate interlibrary loan requests directly?

Yes, SHAREit supports user-initiated requests through SIP2 and NCIP protocols, enabling remote authentication with local LMS patron files.

This feature allows users to request materials directly, enhancing user engagement and satisfaction.

Does SHAREit support multi-copy requests for programs like book clubs?

Absolutely. Library staff can initiate multiple requests for the same title in a single step, facilitating services such as book clubs and study groups with minimal staff involvement.

What is the Circulation-Interlibrary Loan Link (CILL)?

CILL is an integration between SHAREit and Auto-Graphics' VERSO LMS, allowing staff and users to search, place and process ILL requests within a single interface.

This integration simplifies workflows and reduces the need for duplicate data entry.

Is the user interface customisable?

Yes, SHAREit features a clean, intuitive discovery interface with a unique clustered display that groups multiple formats under appealing jacket art.

Libraries can customise interfaces to align with their branding, including home pages and forms.

Which libraries or states have successfully implemented SHAREit?

SHAREit has been adopted by numerous North American state wide systems, including Texas, Illinois, Tennessee, Arkansas, Indiana, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Kansas and more.

For instance, the Arkansas State Library selected SHAREit to build a secure hybrid union catalog, facilitating resource sharing among libraries of all sizes and types across the state.

Is SHAREit 508 compliant for accessibility?

Auto-Graphics is committed to providing state-of-the-art technology solutions that are accessible for our customers as well as their community of users.

We are continually improving the user experience by applying all relevant accessibility standards to our library management and resource-sharing software.

Conformance

Auto-Graphics strives to embed accessibility throughout our products using WCAG 2.0 guidelines that ensure compliance with section 508. The WCAG outlines three levels of conformance: level A, level AA and level AAA. All patron-facing pages are no less than Level AA compliant with many at Level AAA compliance. A-G’s current conformance to WCAG guidelines are detailed on our VPAT.

Auto-Graphics is dedicated to developing our software adhering to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, however, there may be areas within our software and website that aren’t fully compliant. We continue to refine our policies and procedures to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.0 and the revised Section 508.

Measures to support Accessibility

Development:

The Auto-Graphics Development team incorporates accessibility measures as part of the development process. Working together with Product Managers, we ensure that each feature, function and enhancement is created to meet, at minimum, the WCAG 2.0 AA standards for 508 Accessibility.

The tools utilized for development include:

  • Google’s Material Design System – Helps teams build high-quality digital experiences for Android, iOS, Flutter and the web. They define best practices for addressing accessibility. More details can be found here.
  • Angular Material – Supports building beautiful, usable applications. The components we use already have accessibility built in. More details can be found here.

Testing and Quality Assurance:

Auto-Graphics’ Quality Assurance team utilizes third-party tools and assistive technologies when assessing accessibility in our software.

The tools utilized are:

  • JAWS screen reader
  • NVDA screen reader
  • Dragon Speech Recognition
  • WAVE (Online Web Accessibility Evaluation) Tool: Evaluates pages and identifies accessibility issues based on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • ANDI (Accessible Name and Description Inspector) Testing Tool: This tool performs testing to detect accessibility issues per page.

Auto-Graphics evaluates each new feature using NVDA and/or JAWS screen readers and keyboard navigation with every software release. In addition, QA runs a system evaluation at least once a month to confirm accessibility standards are upheld using the tools WAVE and ANDI. Auto-Graphics is also implementing testing using Dragon Speech Recognition software for the patron interface.
